How much should it cost to tailor a suit?On average, it should cost between $60 to $135 to tailor a client’s suit. But you are not average. To look your very best, neither should your suits be. At Michael Iji, costs can range from some basic tweaking, $35, to extensive rework, at around $250+/-. Our recommendation is to stop in with your garment, try it on and give Michael an opportunity to work with you and show you how much better your fit can be with his help. Prices will be discussed then, with the intricacies of the work laid out for you clearly.

What is the price range for a custom suit?Suit prices vary dependent on quality of fabric, details and other costs factored in such as the domestic or international transport of materials, time, labor costs and other supplies. At Michael Iji, prices begin at $750. Customizable brand suits currently on sale in store and by special order are $1200 - $2000. *Price adjustments and increases are expected due to tariffs on imports, as Michael Iji suiting fabrics are milled internationally.

What if I want to supply my own material to make a suit? The best rule of thumb is to buy a little more fabric than you think you’ll need. This will allot for height and width of the client, additions or corrections, as well as if the material has a pattern that needs to be followed in a certain direction. If a typical two-piece suit requires 3.5 yards of fabric, it may be wise to get 4 yards. At Michael Iji, you can choose from a wide selection of high-quality fabrics for suits and business shirts, with more couture fabric sources still to come. Make an appointment today!

What is the difference between a cheap suit and an expensive suit?A cheap suit is usually made of polyester or rayon. It often appears thin and tends to have a shine to it most observable in sunlight. A quality suit is made of 100% virgin wool with a soft, refined luster. This type of suit, depending on the details, fabric quality, source, import costs and other factors, can run anywhere between $600 to $3500. The material will have a richer texture and / or feel heavier. A fine tailor – suit maker can make you feel spectacular in either one.

What is the most expensive suiting material?Vicuna wool is the most expensive material in the world, being that it is derived from the world’s finest and rarest South American camel-like creature native to the high alpine areas of the Andes Mountain in Peru – the vicuna. The material is water-resistant, breathable, has natural UV protection, and feels luxurious in nature. It is the softest, finest and warmest of all natural fibers. This wool is now illegal for trade due to the vicuna being declared an endangered species in 1974 and therefore, it is morally and legally prohibited for Michael Iji to receive materials or make suits from this type of wool.
